The busy transport hub at the eastern end of the peninsula — cheap beds, chaotic energy, and gateway to Sangotedo and Epe. Ajah is the point where the Lekki-Epe Expressway meets the older Ajah roundabout, and it's the busiest transport interchange east of Phase 1. Danfos, keke, okadas, and every kind of hustle converge here. It's noisy, dusty, cheap, and full of life. Real Lagos, not the polished version.This suits budget travellers who want to see how ordinary Lagosians live, backpackers on tight budgets, and anyone using Ajah as a base for onward trips to Epe or Ibeju-Lekki. It does not suit anyone expecting quiet or aesthetic — none of that here. Rooms run $35-$65 for basic clean, up to $90 for the better hotels near Sangotedo. Skip anything advertised as 'Ajah' without a specific street — many are actually roadside motels aimed at travellers, not tourists.

Is Ajah safe to stay in?

Reasonably during the day, more cautious at night. The roundabout area and market are pickpocket-aware zones — keep valuables secure and don’t display phones. The residential estates further from the roundabout are calmer. Use Bolt after dark rather than walking, always.

How long from Ajah to Lekki Phase 1?

20-30 minutes by car in normal traffic, up to an hour on Friday evenings. Bolt fare is $8-$14. Danfos do the same run for around $1 but with 5-10 stops along the way, taking 45-60 minutes even off-peak.
