Atican Beach

The scruffy, no-frills beach hangout of the Ajah crowd — huts on the sand, live band Sundays and prices half of what Landmark charges.

What to expect at Atican Beach

Atican Beach Resort is the local weekender's answer to the polish of Landmark — a rougher, cheaper, more Nigerian beach experience just off Abraham Adesanya roundabout in Ajah. Wooden huts line the sand, roaming vendors sell suya and pepper snails, and Sunday afternoons see live highlife bands set up on the terrace. It attracts the young professional Ajah crowd rather than tourists, which means prices stay reasonable and the vibe stays local. The ocean here is rough — the current is strong — so most people come for the atmosphere rather than to swim seriously.

Strategy: come Sunday from 3pm for the live band scene, which is where Atican really shines. Weekdays are almost empty and you can rent a hut for a few dollars. Bring cash; card acceptance is patchy. The gate is on the ocean side of the expressway just past Abraham Adesanya — Bolt drivers know it by name. Avoid swimming past the roped area, and never after dark.
