Home to the sprawling Ikota Shopping Complex — cheap fabric, cheap rooms, and one of the most local corners of Lekki left. Ikota is best known for the Ikota Shopping Complex, a sprawling wholesale market for fabric, tailoring, and household goods that pulls buyers from across Lagos. The residential streets around it are working-class Lekki, meaning cheaper hotels, real Nigerian food, and none of the polish of Phase 1. It's still Lekki — no dodgier than anywhere else — just rougher around the edges.This suits budget backpackers, buyers here to shop the market, and travellers who want a more local experience over resort-style comfort. It does not suit anyone expecting Western hotel standards; the mid-range here is basic. Rooms run $40-$70 for clean simple, with a few better aparthotels at $80-$110. Skip the very cheap lodges directly opposite the market — most are geared toward traders on overnight stays, not tourists.

Is Ikota market open every day?

Yes but Sundays are much slower — many stalls close or open late. Best days are Tuesday through Saturday, from about 9am to 6pm. Weekends before 10am and after 5pm are worth avoiding as the crowds get intense and traffic locks up.

Is it safe to shop the market as a foreigner?

Generally yes during daytime, but expect to be quoted higher prices as a foreigner, especially if you dress noticeably. Bring cash in small denominations, keep your phone in a zipped bag, and go with someone local if possible. Avoid pulling out large amounts of cash in the open.
