Day 1: Free Lekki

Stay near Ikate to keep room rates around $35 a night at places like Bahara Suites or a Landwey serviced apartment. Breakfast at a local buka on Fola Osibo, akara and pap for $2. Walk the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in the morning, free, great skyline views. Free entry to Nike Art Gallery on Elegushi Road, allow two hours. Suya from Glover Court Suya (there's a Lekki branch on Admiralty) for dinner, about $5 with a drink.

Day 2: Beach without the beach club

Skip Landmark and go to Elegushi Beach, entry around $3. Bring your own drinks or buy fried fish and plantain on the sand for $4. Spend the day. Bolt back for around $4. Evening at a rooftop bar with no cover charge like Vellvett Lounge in Lekki Phase 1, one $6 cocktail and you’ve got the view.

Day 3: Nature and market

Lekki Conservation Centre entry $4, skip the paid canopy walk if you’re tight, the ground trails are free once you’re in. Lekki Arts and Crafts Market for gifts, budget $20 for a few pieces if you bargain. Lunch at Ghana High on Adeola Odeku, waakye and grilled fish for $6. Final dinner at Ocean Basket on Admiralty for something nicer, mains around $18.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask before they set off on this one.

Can I really do Lekki for under $200?

Yes for three days if the hotel is around $35 a night and you eat street food twice a day. Beach clubs and Victoria Island dinners are what blow budgets.

Are the danfo buses safe?

They work but they’re crowded and slow. Bolt at $3 to $5 a ride is worth it for tourists most of the time.

Where do budget travellers stay in Lekki?

Ikate and Agungi have serviced apartments from $30 to $45. Phase 1 rarely dips below $60.

Is Elegushi Beach worth it over Landmark?

Cheaper and more local, but rougher water and more hustle. For a chilled beach club day, Landmark still wins.
