Behind Chevron and cheaper — small guesthouses, decent local food, and a solid base if you want value over walkability. Agungi is one of the internal neighbourhoods behind the Chevron roundabout, mostly residential with a thin scattering of small hotels and aparthotels. It's the kind of place you stay when someone told you 'Lekki is expensive' — and they weren’t wrong, but the savings come with trade-offs. There's no walkable nightlife, no beach access without a cab, and internal roads flood during heavy rains.This suits long-stay visitors on tighter budgets, remote workers who want a kitchen and reliable WiFi, and anyone visiting friends or family who actually live in Agungi. It does not suit a first-time Lagos tourist with only 3-4 days — you’ll spend too much of your trip in cabs. Rooms and aparthotels run $45-$80 for basic clean, up to $110 for something with a real generator and hot water 24/7.

Is Agungi safe for tourists?

The residential estates are fine during the day and reasonable at night if you’re inside the gates. The expressway junction area gets sketchy after 10pm — always Bolt in and out, don’t wander. Compared to Phase 1 you’ll see fewer other tourists, which is neither a good nor bad thing.

Can you find beach access from Agungi?

Not directly. Closest is Elegushi Beach (10-15 minute cab, $3-$5) or Landmark Beach (15-20 minutes, $5-$8). If beach is your main goal, Agungi is not the right base — pick Ikate or Phase 1 instead.
