The old fishing and market town at the far east end of the expressway — cheap boats, fresh fish, and an actual old-Lagos vibe. Epe sits at the far end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, about 60-80 minutes from Ajah depending on traffic. It's a genuine old town — a lagoon fishing port that predates Lagos state as we know it, with a big fish market, wooden boat builders, and streets that don’t feel remotely like the Lekki mainland. Coming here is a proper day trip out of urban Lagos.This suits day-trippers curious about pre-modern Lagos, boat and fishing enthusiasts, and adventurous travellers happy to trade comfort for character. It does not suit anyone looking for hotels with 24-hour hot water and Western-style restaurants. Guesthouse rooms in Epe run $35-$70 for very basic; the newer estates on the outskirts (Beechwood, Amen) run $80-$200. Most tourists come as day-trippers rather than overnighting.

For adventurous travellers, absolutely — it's one of the few places on the peninsula that still feels like a working Nigerian town rather than a Lagos suburb. For someone here for beach and clubs only, probably not worth the 3-4 hours of round-trip driving.

How safe is Epe for tourists?
