Ikate

Newer high-rises, boutique hotels, and the strip along Elegushi Road where the beach clubs and rooftop lounges keep multiplying. Ikate has gone from sleepy in-between neighbourhood to one of the fastest-changing corners of Lekki in about five years. New apartment towers keep going up along Ikate-Elegushi Road, and the beach access via Elegushi Royal Beach is a serious draw. It's the compromise choice: less packed than Phase 1, more happening than Phase 2, and prices haven’t fully caught up yet.This is where I’d send a first-time visitor who wants beach mornings and easy nightlife access without paying Phase 1 rates. Rooms run $60-$110 for mid-range. The catch: construction noise is real — a lot of buildings are still going up, so ask specifically whether your hotel is next to an active site. And Elegushi Beach itself is chaotic on weekends; go on a Wednesday if you want to actually see sand.

Is Elegushi Beach worth the entry fee?

On a weekday, yes — you get sand, drinks, and horse rides for $10 total. On a weekend, no — it's loud, packed, and the drinks are marked up double. Landmark Beach is cleaner but more expensive; Tarkwa is the actual quality beach if you can get a boat.

How does Ikate compare to Lekki Phase 1 for price?

About 15-25% cheaper for equivalent quality, and often newer builds. The trade-off is fewer restaurants within walking distance and more construction noise. For 3+ nights I’d pick Ikate; for one big weekend, Phase 1.
