Awoyaya

Halfway between Ajah and Ibeju-Lekki — cheaper aparthotels, weekend beach traffic, and the closest budget base for Eleko day trips. Awoyaya sits on the Lekki-Epe Expressway between Sangotedo and Abraham Adesanya, in the stretch where the peninsula gets noticeably more open — fewer high-rises, more empty land waiting to be developed. Hotels here tend to be smaller, family-run, and geared toward weekenders heading further east to the beaches. This suits budget travellers using Lekki as a base for Ibeju-Lekki beach trips, and anyone who wants a room for cheap and doesn’t mind long cab rides. It does not suit anyone here for Lekki nightlife — you’re 40+ minutes from Phase 1 and hoping for restaurants within walking distance is optimistic. Rooms run $40-$70 for basic clean, with a few better places at $80-$110. Skip anything that only lists a WhatsApp contact — usually short-lets without proper security.

Vos questions, nos réponses

Why stay in Awoyaya at all?

Pure economics — you’re saving $30-$50 per night versus staying closer to Phase 1, and if your trip is focused on Ibeju-Lekki beaches you’re actually closer to what you came for. But for typical Lekki nightlife tourists this is too far east.

How safe is the expressway at night around Awoyaya?

The main road is generally fine for through-traffic in a Bolt or private car. Do not walk on the service road after dark, and don’t take okadas at night here — the shoulder is unlit and the trucks are aggressive. Always use ride apps.
