Ilashe is a slim barrier-island beach across the Lagos Harbour from Victoria Island. There is no road — you reach it by speedboat from Tarzan Marina, Five Cowries Terminal or the Landmark jetty, a 20-25 minute crossing across the lagoon and harbour mouth. Once there, you land on a long, empty stretch of Atlantic sand fronted by dozens of privately owned beach houses that are rented out by the day or weekend.
This is Lagos's answer to a Hamptons weekend: bring your friends, hire a house with a cook and DJ, and spend the day between the pool, the sand and the surf. Day-trippers can pay a small landing fee at any of the commercial beach clubs and use their loungers. Public transport does not exist here — the return boat is your only way back, so lock in a pickup time with your captain before he leaves the jetty.
