Who Victoria Island suits
Victoria Island (locals call it VI) is the original Lagos business district, with the highest concentration of embassies, banks HQs and international-brand hotels — Eko Hotel, Radisson Blu, Wheatbaker (technically Ikoyi), Federal Palace. Rooms here run ₦150,000-₦450,000 depending on brand. It suits corporate travellers with meetings on the Island, anyone attending conferences at Eko or Landmark, and travellers whose priority is the branded-hotel safety net.
It also suits shorter trips. If you have three nights and want to see Lagos rather than a specific neighbourhood, VI's centrality and dining density (Bay Lounge, Cactus, Bottles, RSVP's original branch) mean less time in a car.
Who Lekki suits
Anyone staying longer than three nights, anyone with kids, and anyone whose ratio of leisure-to-business tips toward leisure. Lekki gives you space, quieter streets, newer builds and roughly 25-35% off the equivalent room grade. Phase 1 specifically offers restaurant density that rivals VI at a lower price.
It also suits beach and resort travellers — you cut a significant chunk off any trip to Elegushi, Eleko or La Campagne by starting from Lekki rather than crossing the bridge each morning.
The bridge equation
The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge (₦300 toll) connects the two directly and is usually fast — 8-15 minutes off-peak between Ikoyi and Lekki Phase 1. The alternative Falomo Bridge routes through VI and adds 20-40 minutes in traffic. Anyone shuttling daily between the two areas should factor this in: Phase 1 to Eko Hotel is a 20-minute drive at 10am, a 90-minute drive at 6pm.

Both are among the safer parts of Lagos. VI has heavier police and security presence; Lekki has more gated estates. Neither materially outranks the other.
