Top 10 things to do in Lekki, ranked

After weeks of legwork across the peninsula, here are the 10 experiences worth your time — in order.

The ranking (1-5)

1) Lekki Conservation Centre canopy walk — Africa's longest canopy walkway at 401m, and the only Lekki attraction I’d call unmissable. 2) A weekend afternoon at Elegushi Beach — loud, chaotic, and the truest slice of Lagos coastal life, especially after 4pm when the suya grills fire up. 3) Nike Art Gallery in Ikate — five floors, over 8,000 pieces, and Nike Okundaye herself often on site. 4) Sunday brunch at RSVP or Sky Restaurant on Admiralty Way. 5) Lagos Photo tour of Lekki Arts & Crafts Market next to the Conservation Centre.

These five would fill a solid long weekend on their own. The canopy walk goes first because nothing else in Lagos compares, and it's genuinely well-maintained. Elegushi ranks above the quieter private beaches because you came to Lagos, not to hide from it. Nike Gallery is free, and the ground-floor prints are actually affordable — I’ve seen framed pieces for ₦15,000.

The ranking (6-10)

6) A boat cruise from Tarkwa Bay jetty out to Ilashe — half-day, around ₦25,000-40,000 per head with a group. 7) Sunday service at Daystar or House on the Rock, if only for the production values and the traffic-free morning drive. 8) Lekki Arts & Crafts Market for bronze, adire and beaded jewellery — bargain hard, halve the first price. 9) Terra Kulture in Victoria Island for a play or the Nigerian buffet lunch. 10) Refuge Bar rooftop in Lekki Phase 1 for sundowners.

Everything below the top five is optional. I put the church services in because they genuinely are a Lagos phenomenon worth witnessing once, even if you’re not religious — Daystar's 7am service ends before the traffic builds. Skip Omu Resort unless you’re travelling with kids under 10; it's oversold. Skip Landmark Beach's daytime hours in favour of sunset. And do not, under any circumstances, try to fit all ten into a weekend.

Bon à savoir

Which of these is best for a first-timer with only one day?+

Conservation Centre in the morning, Nike Gallery midday, Elegushi Beach for sunset. That's the whole peninsula in one honest day.

Are any of these free?+

Nike Art Gallery is free entry. Lekki Arts & Crafts Market is free to browse. Elegushi charges around ₦1,000-2,000 per person at the gate.
