The 6 best day trips from Lekki, ranked

Six places within 90 minutes that are worth the fuel and the traffic — ordered by actual reward, not distance.

1 to 3: the ones I’d repeat

1) Ilashe Beach by boat — 25 minutes across the lagoon from Tarkwa Bay jetty, and a completely different Lagos: quiet, wide, and clean, with beach houses you can rent for the day from around ₦150,000 for a group of ten. 2) Lekki-Epe fish market at Oluwo — go for 8am, be back by noon, leave with tilapia and croaker at a third of Lekki supermarket prices. 3) Lakowe Lakes for the golf course or Sunday brunch — 45 minutes from Chevron in light traffic, and one of the few genuinely green spaces on the peninsula.

Ilashe wins because it delivers the biggest change of scene for the least effort. The boat itself is half the point — you leave the mainland behind, and the Lagos skyline recedes. Fish market ranks high because it's the rare Lagos experience that gets easier and more rewarding the earlier you go. Lakowe suits anyone who wants a hotel-adjacent day without committing to a stay.

4 to 6: worth it once

4) Badagry — 90 minutes west via the Lekki-Epe Expressway and Third Mainland Bridge, for the Slave Route, the Mobee family relics museum, and the point-of-no-return. Sobering rather than scenic. 5) Epe town proper — Sunday market, boat rides on the lagoon, and the calm of a town that hasn’t been swallowed by Lagos yet. 6) La Campagne Tropicana in Ikegun — technically Ibeju-Lekki, not a day trip in the strict sense, but a self-contained resort with a private beach that works as a full-day escape.

Skip Whispering Palms unless you have a specific reason. It's oversold on Instagram and undersold in maintenance. And skip any tour that promises Badagry and Epe on the same day — you’ll spend seven hours in traffic to see two places for 40 minutes each. Pick one and commit.

Bon à savoir

Which day trip is best without a car?+

Ilashe. You Bolt to the jetty, book a boat online in advance, and the whole thing runs on schedule.

Can I do any of these as a half-day?+

The fish market, yes — dawn until 11am. Ilashe if you leave the jetty by 8am and are back by 1pm. The rest need a full day.
