The top 3
1) Glover Court Suya (the Lekki Phase 1 branch on Fola Osibo). The yaji is nuttier and drier than the competition, the meat is genuinely trimmed, and they’ll grill fresh if you’re willing to wait 15 minutes. Around ₦3,500 for a proper wrap. 2) Suya Spot on Admiralty Way — open until 2am, closer to a food destination than a roadside grill, with tsire, kilishi and ram options all executed cleanly. 3) The mai suya outside Ebeano Supermarket in Lekki Phase 1 — no name, no signage, just a man, a grill, and a queue every night from 7pm.
These three separate themselves on one factor: freshness. All three grill to order rather than reheating pre-cooked skewers, which is the shortcut most places take by 9pm. Glover Court wins narrowly because the yaji spice mix has more groundnut and less filler. The Ebeano guy is the cheapest of the three at around ₦1,500 per wrap and is the closest thing to the Kaduna standard I’ve had in Lagos.
Numbers 4 and 5, and one to avoid
4) Yahuza Suya at Chevron roundabout — reliable, generous portions, but the yaji leans salty and the fire management is inconsistent. 5) The suya window at Circle Mall, Jakande — convenient if you’re already shopping, but you’re paying mall rent, not suya prices, and it shows. Avoid: any of the branded delivery-first suya kitchens on Bolt Food. Whatever arrives has sat in foil for 40 minutes and is essentially chewy beef in cold spice.
One tip nobody tells you: order the tozo (hump) if it's on offer. It's fattier, cheaper per gram, and holds heat better in the wrap. Ask for extra onion and tomato on the side — most spots include it free but forget unless prompted. And bring cash. Three of my top five don’t take transfers reliably after 10pm when the networks go down.

Is suya safe for a first-timer's stomach?+
From a busy stall where meat is grilled to order in front of you, yes. From a quiet stall with skewers sitting under a light, no.
