Ikeja

The airport-side base — Ikeja GRA restaurants, computer village chaos, and a sensible sleeping option for very early flights out. Ikeja is where Lagos's main airport (Murtala Muhammed International) sits, on the mainland side, an hour or more from Lekki depending on traffic. It's not Lekki at all — it's a different Lagos entirely, older, denser, mainland-vibed. The reason it shows up in a Lekki guide: for very early morning flights or very late arrivals, staying in Ikeja saves you a bad experience with Third Mainland Bridge traffic. This suits transit travellers with early flights, business visitors doing Ikeja-based meetings, and anyone using Lagos as a stopover rather than a destination. It does not suit anyone here for Lekki beach and club culture — you’re on the wrong side of the city. Rooms run $55-$180 for reliable business hotels near the airport, $80-$250 for the better GRA (Government Reserved Area) hotels. Ikeja GRA is where the good restaurants are.

Vos questions, nos réponses

Should I stay in Ikeja instead of Lekki?

Only if you have flights very early or very late, or if your business meetings are mainland-side. For actual tourism — beach, clubs, restaurants aimed at visitors — Lekki and VI are much better. Ikeja is functional; Lekki is the destination.

How long from Ikeja to Lekki?

60-90 minutes in normal traffic, up to 2-3 hours during Third Mainland Bridge rush hours. If you have a Friday evening arrival and want to be in Lekki that night, allow 2+ hours. If you fly in Sunday afternoon, allow 60-75 minutes. Never assume the map estimate — always add 30 minutes.
