Who it suits
Lakowe is a village east of Awoyaya whose identity has been reshaped by Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate — an 18-hole course, luxury villas, a spa hotel and event grounds. If you can afford the resort, it is a genuinely restful base at ₦180,000-₦400,000 a night, and the golf is one of the two best courses within an hour of Lagos.
It suits golfers first, corporate retreats second, and Lagos-based couples wanting an anniversary weekend third. Outside the estate, Lakowe village itself has cheap guesthouse accommodation used mostly by construction and utility workers, at ₦15,000-₦25,000 a room.
Who it does not suit
Everyone who is not one of those three groups. Lakowe is 60-90 minutes from the city and there is genuinely nothing to do here besides golf and the estate's own amenities. Non-golfing travelers who book the resort out of curiosity often check out early.
It also does not suit anyone wanting a beach — the resort has no beach access. The nearest good beach is Eleko, 20-25 minutes back west, which is fine as a day trip but not walkable.
What is within walking distance
Inside the resort compound, everything the resort offers — golf course, spa, three restaurants, pool, tennis. Outside the compound gate, Lakowe village has a small market, chophouses selling ₦1,500 rice and stew, and a couple of provisions stores. It is not tourist-oriented at all and there is little reason to walk out except curiosity.

Can I play golf without staying at the resort?+
Yes — day green fees are around ₦25,000-₦40,000 depending on weekday or weekend. Book at least a week ahead.
Is there public transport to Lakowe?+
Danfos from Ajah roundabout run past Lakowe for about ₦500, but you will need a keke to get to the resort gate from the main road. Most guests come by private car or resort shuttle.
