The top 3
1) Neu Café in Lekki Phase 1 — proper espresso extraction, milk textured correctly, and beans that taste like beans rather than burnt bread. The seating is limited so go early. 2) Cafe Neo, Admiralty branch — the biggest chain in Lagos for a reason; consistent, air-conditioned, and open reliably from 7am. Their cortado is the best chain-coffee drink in the city. 3) Slow on Providence Street — leans European café rather than coffee specialist, but the beans they use are good and the pastries are the best in Lekki.
Neu takes first place because the barista actually cares — you can tell within one visit. Cafe Neo is the sensible daily choice, and their Lekki branches are noticeably better than the mainland ones. Slow is where you go on Sunday morning with a book. All three have decent Wi-Fi, though Neu's cuts out under load and Cafe Neo throttles after two hours.
4 and 5
4) The espresso bar inside Circle Mall — surprisingly serviceable, and useful if you’re shopping. Around ₦3,500 for an Americano. 5) Bature Brewery Café — Bature is better known for beer, but their coffee side runs beans from a small roaster in Ibadan and the space itself is worth an hour. Skip anywhere advertising a ₦2,500 cappuccino — the beans are stale, the milk is UHT, and you’re better off making instant at your hotel.
A note on the local roasters: Happy Coffee and Cafe Neo both roast in Lagos, and both are stocked in Ebeano and Addide if you want to take beans home. Grind fresh, use around 18g for a double shot, and you can get closer to Neu's cup at home than most Lekki cafés manage. Cash and transfers both work at all five.
