The three windows to plan around
Nigerian private schools follow a three-term calendar. The main breaks are mid-December to early January (Christmas), mid-April to early May (Easter), and mid-July to mid-September (long vacation). During these windows, Lagos-based families with the means take short local trips: weekend nights at La Campagne Tropicana in Ibeju-Lekki, day visits to Landmark Beach, and Sunday brunches at hotels with pools. If you’re a foreign visitor, this affects which venues are quiet and which are packed.
The long vacation from mid-July through mid-September is the biggest domestic tourism window. La Campagne Tropicana sells out chalets for weekends from July 25th to September 5th. Inagbe Grand Resort on the lagoon fills up. Beach clubs on Ilashe run weekend-level pricing every day. Hotel pools with day-pass access — Radisson Blu, Eko Hotel, Oriental — get busy on Saturdays and Sundays.
How this changes your booking
For beach resorts, book domestic-favourite spots six to eight weeks ahead in July and August. Chalets at La Campagne go for ₦180,000-320,000 a night in this window, up from ₦140,000 off-season. For city hotels, school holidays barely affect rates — most Lagos families stay at home and just do day trips, so Radisson Blu and The Wheatbaker still price on international demand.
Easter break is short and sharp. The Friday-to-Monday of Easter itself is peak, with ₦40,000-60,000 nightly surcharges at family resorts. December school break overlaps entirely with Detty December, so it doesn’t stand out separately. If you want a beach chalet without competing with local families, book November, February, or late April after Easter.
