Lekki in February: the quiet month locals recommend

Dry season peak, Valentine's weekend spikes, and rooms 40% below December prices.

Weather is at its best

February is the month I tell friends to come. Harmattan is fading by mid-month, humidity is still low, and daytime temperatures sit around 32°C with proper blue skies rather than the January haze. No rain, no thunderstorms, and the ocean at Eleko and La Campagne Tropicana is calm enough for actual swimming. Evenings in Lekki Phase 1 are pleasant at 24-26°C, which means rooftop bars like Sky Restaurant at Eko Hotel are genuinely enjoyable rather than sticky.

The trade-off is dust. Cars parked overnight collect a fine red film, and if you’re doing photography the light is soft and slightly milky rather than sharp. But this is the best window for boat trips to Tarkwa Bay, day drives to Epe Fish Market, or long lunches at RSVP on Idejo Street without sweating through your shirt.

Valentine's is the only spike

Rates stay low all month except February 13-15. Every restaurant with a view — Talindo Steak, Z Kitchen, the Ocean Basket at Landmark — runs a Valentine's set menu at ₦45,000-80,000 per couple, and they book out two weeks ahead. Hotels bump weekend rates by ₦30,000-50,000 for the 14th itself. Outside that weekend, Radisson Blu Anchorage sits around ₦170,000, The Wheatbaker in Ikoyi around ₦220,000, and Chevron serviced apartments around ₦85,000.

Nothing shuts in February. The Lekki Arts and Crafts Market is fully stocked with pieces the artisans made during the December rush. Nike Art Gallery does midweek tours on request. Boat cruise operators like Sha Sha Cruise run Saturday trips at ₦25,000-40,000 per head.

Good to know

Is February a good beach month?+

The best. Calm water, low humidity, and the beach clubs at Eleko and Ilashe are open but not packed like December.

Do I need a jacket in February?+

For early mornings and air-conditioned restaurants, yes. Evenings are mild rather than cold by late February.
