Who Ikate suits
Ikate sits between Phase 1 and Chevron, either side of Elegushi Road. It has quietly become the mid-market hotel belt — think The George, La Maison Fahrenheit's sister properties, and dozens of 3-star options along Kusenla Road and Chisco Road. A room that would be ₦110,000 in Phase 1 is ₦75,000-₦85,000 here, and the build is often newer.
It suits couples on a second Lagos trip who already know they do not need Admiralty Way at the door. It also suits anyone with a rental car — Ikate has better parking and easier exits onto the expressway, since you skip the Phase 1 gate.
Who should still pick Phase 1
First-timers, solo travellers without a driver, and anyone whose plans revolve around Phase 1's restaurants. Ikate has good places to eat — Cactus, Ocean Basket, RSVP has a location off Kusenla — but the density is roughly a third of Phase 1's. You will still Bolt to dinner most nights.
Business travellers with early meetings in Victoria Island also lean Phase 1: shaving five kilometres off the morning commute matters more than saving ₦20,000 on the room.
What is within walking distance in Ikate
Elegushi Beach is a 10-15 minute walk from the Kusenla end, which is the single strongest argument for Ikate over anywhere else in Lekki. Circle Mall is walkable (12 minutes) from the western edge — cinema, Shoprite, food court. There are two decent supermarkets on Kusenla itself and a cluster of casual restaurants near the Ikate roundabout, but nothing like Fola Osibo's density.

Is Ikate safer or less safe than Phase 1?+
Both are among the safer parts of Lagos. Ikate is quieter at night which some read as safer, others as more isolated — walking is fine on main roads until about 11pm.
Which has more short-let apartments?+
Ikate, by a wide margin. Phase 1 is dominated by hotels and older serviced flats; Ikate has hundreds of new-build one-beds and studios.
