1) Lekki Phase 1 — the obvious answer, and the right one. Everything you came to see is within a 15-minute drive: Admiralty Way for food and bars, Nike Gallery in adjacent Ikate, Elegushi Beach, the Link Bridge. Hotels here range from ₦40,000 to ₦180,000 a night. 2) Oniru — technically Victoria Island but functionally Lekki-adjacent, with Landmark Beach, better roads and shorter drives to VI proper. 3) Ikate — the middle ground; slightly quieter than Phase 1, still walkable-adjacent to the same restaurants and cheaper by around 20%.
Phase 1 wins because the tax on staying elsewhere is Lagos traffic, and Lagos traffic is not a tax you want to pay twice a day. Oniru suits business travellers who need VI access. Ikate suits a second or third visit when you want the same neighbourhood without the Admiralty premium. All three keep you inside the useful radius of the peninsula's real attractions.
4 and 5, and where not to stay
4) Chevron — good for a longer stay if you have a car or a driver, with the Conservation Centre 10 minutes away and quieter residential streets. Cheaper hotels here run ₦30,000-70,000. 5) Agungi — similar logic to Chevron but a bit further out; only makes sense if you have specific business here or a very good deal. Do not base yourself in Ajah, Sangotedo, Awoyaya or Ibeju-Lekki for a short visit unless your reason for coming is specifically there. The commute back into Phase 1 in evening traffic can hit 90 minutes.
Also worth saying: if this is a first visit and you want to see central Lagos as well, split your stay — three nights in Phase 1, one or two in Ikoyi or VI. You’ll cover more ground with less traffic than trying to base out of one location for everything.
